The Russell Brothers - The Party Scene
The Russell Brothers: "The Party Scene 12" Single"
Portrait, 1983 (Hip Hop)
The Party Scene (SV) (9.5 MB)
This 12" single is the only release by The Russell Brothers, and as far as I know, it was merely a demo that wasn't officially released. That is a huge shame, as this record is simply outstanding considering the date of it's release, 1983. The production is years ahead of its time, and no other early hip hop producers came near making a sound like this. The lyrics come off as nearly cliché, but I'm sure that at the time of the single's release they were more original. Even by now, 23 years later, this single has not gained the recognition it deserves, or even reached many fans of early hip hop who would greatly enjoy it.

Awesome song, surprised that so few people know about it......thanks man
This track was quite widely available in the UK via the Streetsounds Collections and has appeared on both CD and vinyl. This was one of the better Electro better tracks, quite why they didn't make more tracks is more than a shame :(
This track has a bit of a story! Back in '85 and '86 a London mainstream station called Capital 95.8 FM had a late night hip hop/electro show hosted by a fantastic DJ called Mike Allen on Friday and Saturdays. On the friday show he would do the Top 10 hip hop chart rundown (provided by Groove Records), whilst doing this he would play the instrumental version of "The Party Scene" which was only available on the vinyl import. Mike said that only 5 or 6 came into the UK at a time so most would be around the London area if people still have them. I was lucky enough to do about four 90 min tapes of Mike's shows that I still play today (I am now 41! Ha!) I love this song and the era!
I was a 12 year old white suburban wannabe b-boy. I was blown away by everything that came out on the streetsounds electro imprint. This was one of the best songs on its best release: electro crucial two. I stumbled across it again a couple of years ago on a Wildbunch mix, showcasing the DJing tastes of Massive Attack in an earlier incarnation. It still sounded fantastic but was cut short in the mix. Thank you so much for giving a chance to pop joints and break bones to it again.
there is an extended version of it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i50y4uTY9_c
